The Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) is engaging key stakeholders on the significance of the Metrology Act of 2022.

The law is concerned with measurements and their influence on economic transactions, human health, and the environment.

Speaking at the information event in Gobabis, the Head of Metrology at the NSI, Simasiku Matali, explained that the Act to be introduced soon will provide for the administration and supervision of metrology.

Simasiku added that the Act will also speak to the functions of the Namibian Standards Institution and its importance in measuring goods when it comes to compliance.

"In trade, we sell, we transact, and when we transact, we measure. We must measure accurately. Others will have issues with disputes in terms of the fact that you did not give me the right amount in terms of what I'm paying for."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate pointed out that the Act is a testament to protection, fairness, and advancement, and it is intertwined with trade and farming activities.

"This legislation is more than just numbers and standards; it is about ensuring a bright and prosperous future for our livestock farming and industrial communities. As we embark on this journey towards progress, I encourage each one of you to familiarise yourselves with the new Metrology Act 2022 and embrace the opportunities it presents."

Measurements and their application are central to the implementation of the national quality infrastructure. The revised National Quality Policy, which prioritises metrology, is part of the national development agenda.
