Namibian gymnasts who participated in three Olympics qualifying events in Morocco, Rwanda, and Tunisia in the individual women's and men's junior and senior competitions have emerged victorious in some events, but still could not book their tickets for the Paris Olympics.

The Namibia National Olympic Committee sent more than 20 gymnasts to compete in different events in search of qualification for the Olympic Games.

The gymnasts participated in the Rhythmic, Artistic, and Trampoline disciplines of the sport.

Wietsa Snyman, who was compiling the report from all three events, said she was delighted by the Tunisian group that performed in the trampoline event and got the most medals.

”Our trampoline team was the best. They came back with medals, and we were proud of them. We also want to say the Olympic Committee did an amazing job. Trampoline went to Tunisia and got first place, and in the junior section, in the Senior we got Karina Van Zyl, who came second. The girls that came first are Jessica Blaauw, and the coach was Coach Virstin. We want to congratulate him; he did a good job of bringing back medals to Namibia”

According to the team manager, Snyman, who went with the gymnasts to Rwanda, she is excited about the performances of all the gymnasts.

“Having a lot of countries, you knew that every country wants to do the best, but we also know that Egypt is number one; they are really good. South Africa came second. Tunisia was also good. We just need to do more competitions and get the gymnasts' confidence up”

Asked if there are any gymnasts that had qualified for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, the answer was no.

”At this stage, we are not there to go to the Olympics, but give us a few more times, and we need to make sure our girls are up to standard and make more effort to attend more competitions.”

According to Snyman, they are working hard to prepare the gymnasts for the next Olympic Games in 2028 and to have a strong team that will represent Namibia.
