The Community of Vaalgras has welcomed the motion proposing the erection of an ever-lighting shrine in honour of Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi in their village. 

They shared these sentiments during consultations with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources and Community Development. 

The parliamentary motion suggested that the planned shrine be erected on the site where Kaptein Witbooi was shot and killed by German imperial troops. 

During the consultations, Vaalgras community members said they respected the |Khowese clan's desire to have the shrine erected at their departed Gaob's homestead in Gibeon. 

They, however, proposed a monument depicting Kaptein Witbooi riding his horse at the site called Witbooi's Einde, where he made his ultimate sacrifice. 

This, they argued, would bolster the existing historical ties between the two tribes. 

Witbooi's Einde was declared a national heritage site in 2021.

The standing committee chairperson was impressed with the Vaalgras community's plan to transform the location into a heritage site and tourism attraction.
