The Namibian Defence Force continues to be a beacon of peace and unity and ensures security and stability in the country amidst challenges since 1990.
Defence and Veterans Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi made this remark during the NDF's 34th anniversary celebrations held at the Lieutenant Dimo Hamaambo Garrison at Grootfontein .
Minister Kapofi says the NDF was the first institution to embody the concept of national reconciliation, which brought together former opposing sides to unite and bring about closure and peace.
Another accolade, according to Kapofi, is the NDF's participation in international solidarity with countries that played a pivotal role during its liberation struggle.
He lauded the large number of NDF's female officers for serving in peace support operations throughout Africa.
Kapofi, however, called for more military funding and resources in order to keep up with global technological advancements and ensure that it is always ready to defend the country.
Four military men and women were awarded medals in Atlantic operations, Mandume ya Ndemufayo operations, commendation medals class 2, army pioneer medals, and for long service in the army.
