Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa reminded elected leaders to live up to the people's expectations, saying that the electorate looks up to them for service delivery.
She was speaking at a rally at Mbambazi Village in the Zambezi Region over the weekend.
The rally was held in Judea Lyaboloma Constituency, where the Swapo Party lost the seat to an independent candidate in the last regional election.
Shaningwa assured the residents of Swapo's commitment to deliver, adding that the party can only be held accountable if it is in charge of the constituency.
The Swapo Party functionary asked residents to vote correctly and give the party the mandate.
"Our people are not asking a lot; our people are asking a few things that should be done, and all of us who will be given the responsibility to be in government should do in accordance because our people do not ask a lot of things to do; our people are hardworking and can provide themselves; all we have to do is assist them to do what is right."
Shaningwa advised party members who are serving in government to continue to respect and deliver on the wishes of the people per the party manifesto.
"You cannot go as the minister deployed by the Swapo Party, whereby we have sold the manifesto and we have made promises to the people that when we are elected by you, the people, then one person or two will go and do other things that they were not told to do by the Swapo Party through the campaigns. It is very important that we do as requested by the people because it's the people who know what their problems are."
Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu reminded residents of the importance of registering to vote before the closing date.
"You can carry whatever or you can take any type of a party card, but if you don't register for you to put that party in power you are doing nothing. Next year we vote for our councillors so that they may represent you in the constituency, if you do not have the voter card, it will be pointless, regardless of how much support and praise you may have for your preferred candidates."
