Defending champions team ||Kharas won their first game 1-0 against Ohangwena in the Football category of the annual Namibian Police Force Championships taking place at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region.

Urged on by their supporters, team ||Kharas walked into the game with only one thing on their mind: retaining the trophy they won last year.

Speaking to NBC Sport after the match, team ||Kharas manager Aloe Haufiku said the team has prepared well for these championships.

"We prepared the young boys for this tournament because they are homegrown and we trust them to perform. ''This is our tournament, our home ground, and we expect them to win this game and the entire tournament as well'' said Haufiku.

In the netball opening game, defending champions Khomas defeated Oshikoto 32-8 and will play against ||Kharas next.

"I am ready for any competition that comes. I cannot say that any team here is weak because each team represents its own region. For my team, I can say we are ready. We are here to enjoy the game and do what we love. The winning team will be the one that performs best on the day''.the coach team of Khomas Jackie Ortner indicated.

Despite losing their first match against Khomas in the first volleyball game, team Otjozondjupa is confident they will bounce back in the second round.

Otjozojupa team captain also spoke at the event "Most definitely, we are going to retain our trophy. We had a few setbacks, but that doesn't mean we won't take it back to Otjiwarongo. We are working on it and will indeed succeed."

Darts is one of the sports at the championships, with ten regions participating, comprising 12 male teams and 8 female teams. "Next year, we will have the SACU games, so we are planning to build a strong team to participate. When we represented darts in the 2022 SACU games in Dares Salaam, I was the manager, and we learned a lot from other regions. We need to push our darts players from amateur to professional levels gradually." said Darts official Dino Skrywer.
