At the African Youth Chess Championship which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, 12-year-old Annalese Brown was the highest-ranking Namibian chess player, demonstrating remarkable strategic thinking.

Competing in the 15th edition of the African Youth Chess Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa, was a Namibian team comprising 41 players. Namibia competed against 14 other countries in the tournament, which featured participants in categories ranging from under-8 to under-19.

With Team Namibia putting on an impressive display, 12-year-old Annalese Brown defeated 3 FIDE-rated players on her way to emerging as the highest-ranking Namibian chess player. She solidified her position as fifth in the U12 category in her inaugural tournament.

Also making their debut were her sisters, Amelia and Angelique Brown. Here is how they reflected on their experience at the championship.
