The Namibian Police have established a Cold Case Investigation Team to look into some of the unsolved murders, including those of children, that shocked the nation over the years.

This was shared with nbc News by the police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi.

One such murder is that of six-year-old Karibib resident Adrian Myne Oswyn, who went missing from home at the Harambee location in 2022.

Adrian was a Grade 0 learner at Ebenhaiser Primary School.

The little boy went missing when he visited his grandfather's house in the same location.

His grandfather said he escorted him halfway back to his mother's house during the afternoon of Tuesday, October 4.

However, Adrian was never seen again, and his dismembered body parts were found a week later at the town's sewer dam.

But before the brutal murder of Adrian and the gruesome discovery of his remains, it was the foulest murder of nine-year-old Avihe Ujahaa that sent shock waves through the country in 2018.

Avihe went missing for three days from her Katutura home in Windhoek before parts of her mutilated body were found in bushes in the area of Katutura.

Some of her body parts, such as her hands, lower arms, one foot, ribs, thigh, and neck, were found weeks later.

To date, no arrests have been made in both murders.

In 2020, at Luderitz, over 600 kilometres away from the capital city, there were worried parents.

They were the parents of three-year-old Spencer Mandela Nakale.

Spencer disappeared from home when he went out to play with other children during the festive season.

Nelson and Julia Ndafyaalako waited for their son to return home, but little did they know that they would never set their eyes on him again.

Little Mandela vanished without a trace, and not even a reward of N$50,000 led to his discovery to date.

Spencer would have celebrated his 8th birthday this year.

The police have now established the Cold Case Investigation Team to further investigate these cases and are hoping for a breakthrough.

Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi also pointed out that dockets for these cold cases and others are not closed, urging anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.

The results of the Cold Case Investigation Team are what will bring closure to parents and guardians whose children were murdered and vanished without a trace.
