The Omaheke Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Haingura, has called for strong community policing partnerships to help the region succeed in fighting crime.

Speaking at a meeting with station commanders and community policing crime prevention groups, Commissioner Haingura said it is high time that community members help the police combat crime.

He singled out stock theft, poaching, and housebreaking as the most prevalent in the region.

The Head of Crime Prevention in the region, Deputy Commissioner Jackson Kamwangha, said community police members should carry proper identification to avoid disputes when doing crime-fighting duties.

The community police representatives also asked that the regional police force provide training for community force members, while a lack of transport at police stations also needs to be addressed.

Omaheke has 20 community groups, helping the police combat crime.
