The Keetmanshoop Electricity Business Unit (KEBU) has urged pensioners to register for the social electricity tariff to benefit from a discounted electricity rate.

"What we said is that if the pensioner buys, say, power for N$10, he will get 58 units while you and I will only get 46 units. In the past, we said, Let's hold at 50 Ambs, but now we decided it was not a benefit, and so we increased it to 40 Amps. And a normal household is actually using 40 Amps. So it's definite; they will feel that at least they will pay for what they paid all the time," said McDonald Hanse, the Mayor of Keetmanshoop.

Pensioners welcomed the initiative.
