DD Guibeb Primary School won the Football trophy at the Under-13 Build It Sports Festival after beating Mariental Primary School on penalties.
The Under-13 football match between DD Guibeb Primary School and Mariental Primary School had to be decided on penalties after the game ended 0-0 after full time.
In the end, DD Guibeb Primary School were crowned champions, defeating Mariental Primary School 5-4 on penalties in the third edition of the Under-13 NSSU Build IT Sports Festival that took place in Mariental over the weekend.
Despite their young age, both teams played quality football that had the spectators on their feet from the start of the match.
With good passes and accurate defensive play, it seemed likely that the game would end with many goals.
However, this was not the case, as the match ended 0-0 and was decided by penalties.
Mariental Primary School were the first to test DD Guibeb Primary School's goalkeeper with a penalty kick but failed to score.
It was now up to DD Guibeb Primary School to make a difference, and they did, winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
The winning coach, Linus Mapele, was thrilled with the victory.
The coach of Dd Guibeb primary school Linus Mapele said that "Since last year, we also took part in this tournament but had bad luck. This year, I really pushed and made it possible for my boys. I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this for our school."
Despite the loss, Mariental Primary School's coach, Saphocate Edula, thanked the organizers for giving his team the opportunity to play at this level and promised to improve for next year's festival.
Mariental primary school coach Saphocate Edula expressed his disappointment "The plan was fine; we hoped to take it home, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. Nevertheless, the best team won, so we say thank you."
