The highly anticipated Southern Volleyball Association end-of-season league games kicked off in Lüderitz in the ||Kharas region.
Nine teams from ||Kharas and the Hardap regions are participating in the league games, which will determine the league champions for the 2024 season.
Established in 2019, the Southern Volleyball Association has attracted nine teams from the Hardap and ||Kharas regions.
The regional league is a significant and pioneering event for the two regions, drawing talented athletes and enthusiastic supporters from across the area.
The games continue to showcase the dedication and skill of local athletes and highlight the importance of sports in the region.
Santos Naholo Chairperson of Southern Volleyball Association gave his gratitude on the event.
''It is very important today for the community here to come and watch the games and also to see how the players are showcasing their skills. We have very exceptional teams from the Karas region and all over town, and they have made it possible to be here to participate in this very important event.'' he said
In the first match of the day, the current log leaders, Quiver Volleyball Club from Keetmanshoop, faced off against Lüderitz Volleyball Club in a high-quality match.
Despite their home advantage, Lüderitz Volleyball Club was unable to win a set, with Quiver Volleyball Club claiming a clean 3-0 victory.
Hedimbi Ihepavali the coach of Quiver Volleyball Club also gave his insight on the perfomance
''We are prepared, the boys are well motivated, so nothing much. They just have to keep their morale high, do the basics at training, and we will win the remaining two games. I know they are already in our pocket'' Ihepavali said.
With four games still to play, Lüderitz Volleyball Club is determined to rebound.
The coach of Luderitz volleyball club Vendjizuva Tjihoto mention that
Tjihoto said ''We played against a very strong opponent. They are a good and organized team, better than us, and they knew what they were coming for. Going forward, my boys will take it one game at a time. We had a plan for Quiver that didn't work. We tried our best, but we have more strategies for the upcoming games.''
Due to financial constraints, only five teams participated in the end-of-season league games, which will conclude on Sunday with a prize-giving ceremony and the crowning of the Southern Volleyball League Champions.
