The Namibia Sport Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology and the Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service, officially launched the National Supporters' Jersey at the Government Information Centre in Windhoek.

The launch of the National Sports Supporters' Jersey marks a significant milestone in the Nationhood and National Pride Programme, which has been instrumental in fostering unity and pride among Namibians since its inception.

The jersey is available in three colors: red, blue, and white.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, highlighted the crucial role of supporters in sports and emphasized this initiative as a unifying force for the nation.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, also addressed the gathering, discussing the importance of symbolism in promoting national identity and pride.

"At the Ministry of ICT, we are tasked with the crucial responsibility of instilling a sense of nationhood and national pride. Branding is vital for establishing our identity as a Namibian nation" Theofelus said.

Namibia Sport Commission Chief Administrator, Freddy Mwiya, provided an overview of the design competition that led to the creation of the supporters' jersey and recognized the competition's winner.

Desmond Katamila, the competition winner, was honored at the event and received a prize of N$6,000.

The runner-up, Jeffrey Amalenga, was awarded N$4,000 by the Sport Commission.

In addition to the jerseys, a matching tracksuit was unveiled. While initial pricing details were withheld, the Namibia Sport Commission has since announced that the supporters' jersey will be available for N$500, and the tracksuit for N$1,200.

A business consultant appointed by the Namibia Sport Commission will handle the production and distribution of these items.

The merchandise will be available at select outlets across Namibia starting Friday, August 23, 2024. Supporters are encouraged to wear their jerseys proudly at upcoming sporting events.
