The president of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) has cautioned media houses from inciting tribalism through their reporting, making reference to the party's elective congress at Katima Mulilo.

"Members of the media, you are putting us to the greatest test of tribalism to say how many people are in the PDM; these innuendos that are being said, 'No, the PDM belongs to this tribe'. Out of 40 delegates that were elected, less than 10 are Herero's. How can you say we are a Herero party?"

The PDM president further stated that the party has been inclusive of all tribes and age groups over the years, a momentum that he said will be maintained. 

"If you are looking at the configuration of every tribe in the PDM under my watch and under my leadership for the last ten years, I have broadened the scope of representation of everyone across the land of the brave in this country; there is no person that will tell you, Venaani, under your leadership we never got a position. Sometimes the situation depends if a particular person loses; he doesn't lose because of the tribe, he loses because of his strength; he might not be the best person for the job."

Venaani said his words of inclusivity and equality will be fulfilled at the party's electoral college, expected to take place soon.

He was speaking at the media briefing at Katima Mulilo, where he announced the appointment of Geoffrey Mwilima as the party's national spokesperson and a member of the party leadership's top nine.

Mwilima was the party's regional coordinator for the Zambezi Region.
