Developing countries are part of the international community and can contribute to positive outcomes on any of the major international issues.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, shared these sentiments during an interview with CGTN ahead of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit.

Professor Katjavivi said China and Namibia share a common interest in the need for reform of the United Nations Security Council, specifically for Africa to have a permanent seat on the Security Council.

Africa, he stressed, plays an important role in making sure that they strive for peace and security.

"Both Namibia and China do share a common vision on most of the major challenges that are confronting the rest of the international community. This is all in the interest of maintaining peace and stability and ensuring that our shared responsibility contributes to shared prosperity. Developing countries are part of the rest of the international community. They have their voice, and they can contribute positively to positive outcomes on any of the major international issues. We want peace and stability. We believe in dialogue, negotiations, and bringing people around the table. to add their views and find the common ground."

The speaker hopes the FOCAC will deepen the existing cooperation between Namibia and China.

"We also hold the view that this particular get-together will prepare the leadership from Africa and China to look beyond certain issues, particularly aspects of capacity building, drawing the necessary lessons from some of the technological development achieved by China."

The forum will take place this Thursday.
