Clement Kaukuetu, the former Secretary General of the SWANU of Namibia party, has declined the position of Deputy President after he lost the presidency to Charles Katjivirue.

A breakaway SWANU group, known as the 7de Laan Branch, held its own congress last weekend to elect its leadership, defying Evalistus Kaaronda, who claims to hold the legitimate leadership of the party as president.

Kaukuetu, a key figure in the party's unity efforts, expressed his disappointment with the current state of SWANU in a letter explaining his decision not to take up the vice presidency.

He stated that his efforts were aimed at unifying the party, but believes these attempts have reached a dead end. "It turns out, however, that this was not to be as I ended up becoming a mere addition to the 'Tjiri lodge group,' which in my opinion is one of the factions, instead of being part of a new unifying leadership of SWANU of Namibia," he wrote.
