President Nangolo Mbumba and the President of Germany, Dr. Walter-Frank Steinmeier, have reiterated that the agreement to be reached on the question of genocide must meet the expectations of the affected communities and Namibians at large.

Press Secretary Alfredo Hengari said this as the two leaders met in Berlin, where President Mbumba is on a working visit.

Presidents Mbumba and Steinmeier held talks at the Schloss Bellevue on matters of mutual concern to the two countries, including the ongoing negotiations on genocide, apology, and reparations.

The draft joint declaration was put on hold last year to enable negotiating teams to consider proposed amendments.

Dr. Hengari said both Mbumba and Steinmeier are optimistic about the finality of the genocide talks.

“President Mbumba highlighted the importance of reaching a deal on the question of genocide, apology, and reparations, an agreement that speaks to the concerns and demands of the affected communities and Namibia in general, and both leaders agree on the agreement that meets those expectations and both pledge that the final agreement will inevitably speak to the expectations of Namibian people," he said.
