Ongos Valley recently hosted its first-ever Rugby Sevens tournament, which took place in three different towns, starting in Keetmanshoop and Swakopmund, with the grand finale held in the capital this past Saturday.

The tournament, organised in collaboration with the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), aimed to expand the reach of Sevens rugby, a sport still relatively new to many teams accustomed to the traditional 15-a-side format.

The inclusion of different regions was intended to build momentum for Sevens and provide exposure for players from various parts of the country.

They are confident that in the future, more players will be equipped to play sevens in terms of grassroots development.

The Ongos Sevens initiative is seen as a crucial step toward increasing the popularity of Sevens rugby in Namibia, focussing on providing opportunities for players to adapt to the faster-paced format.

As the sport grows, the NRU is committed to ensuring that players at all levels are prepared to excel in the Sevens game, with future plans to enhance youth and grassroots participation.
