NBC Director General Stanley Similo has called on political parties to ensure the safety of journalists during the upcoming November 2024 election campaigns. 

Similo stressed the pivotal role that the media plays in democracy, emphasising that journalists are essential in providing balanced coverage and ensuring that both political voices and public concerns are heard.

He cautioned political parties against any form of harassment or intimidation of media personnel, urging leaders to take responsibility for creating a safe environment for journalists to do their work.

“Political leaders have a duty to safeguard the safety of journalists during campaigns,” Similo said, underscoring the media’s critical role in upholding transparency and facilitating informed public discourse during the election process.

NBC has also allocated 5,040 minutes of free airtime for political parties, ensuring equal opportunity for them to communicate their messages to the public.
