Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security Minister reaffirmed the government's dedication to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry.
Dr. Albert Kawana gave the assurance at the inauguration of the Elundu Police Post in the Omundaungilo Constituency of the Ohangwena Region.
Dr. Kawana says the plight of the police officers stationed along the Namibia-Angola border came to the fore in 2021 during the minister's visit to the area and promised to have better infrastructure.
He says the opening of the post will strengthen police efforts and provide efficient and effective services.
"Our government has attached immense importance to the safety and security sector, as the cabinet has positioned safety and security in the fourth place on the list of national priorities in our fifth national development plan. The police post we are inaugurating is a symbol of hope, a beacon of security, and a pillar of support for the residents of the Omundaungilo constituency."
Ohangwena Governor and former Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga urged community members and the police to work together.
"Collaboration between law enforcement and the community is not just a concept but also a fundamental pillar in fostering trust, safety, and harmony within our community. It's this effective collaboration that paves the way for effective crime prevention and resolution, ensuring that our places are safer for our families and businesses."
Some members of the police force in the region were also promoted.
