The Divundu Village Council has completed several development projects, with more expected to be finalised soon.
These projects are set to bring economic growth and employment.
The village council's chief executive officer, Athanasius Maghumbo, said most of the projects are part of the council's mandate to provide basic municipal services to its growing population.
The projects include sewer reticulation, electrical reticulation, roads, and business infrastructure.
"Construction of sewer and water reticulation services for the portion of extension 2, which is set to the value of N$7,9 million, and that project is in its completion phase. We are only doing the final touches. The council has also embarked on the construction of roads from gravel to bitumen standard in Extension 2 for N$10 million," said Maghumbo.
The construction of several gravel roads across the village and sewer reticulation valued at a million dollars have also been completed.
Maghumbo said due to the increasing population, the provision of water storage facilities is key, and one of the projects is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
"And then the council has also implemented a project for the construction of bulk water storage; that's now ground and elevated still tanks; that's one in Divundu proper and the other one in Extension 2 to the value of N$9 million, and that one I can say is in the middle stage; hopefully we are trusting that it will be completed by the end of the year."
At the moment, the construction of electrical reticulation in Extension 2 is ongoing.
Minor finishes need to be done with regard to relocating power lines encroaching on certain properties and once completed, the extension will be connected to the grid.
The population within Divundu increased from 5,430 to just over 7,000, and the CEO indicated that there has been an interest and need for both residential and business areas.
He also revealed that land has been allocated to a private developer to build 100 housing units.
The development is said to be at an advanced stage, with construction slated to begin early next year.
