The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is warning people not to approach wandering seals on the beach or in public areas since doing so could endanger them.
Seals congregate at designated locations along the coast, referred to as breeding colonies, between November and February in the late spring and early summer months to mate.
While on land, some seals, especially pups, may appear agitated, such as entangled, feeble, or malnourished. The ministry cautions that if a pup gets misplaced, the mother, or cow, may return and move it, so it's better to leave it as is. Furthermore, it should generally not raise any red flags when random seal carcasses are found.
The ministry, as part of its activities, monitors the condition and behaviour of seals, and any abnormality will be given attention.
