Social protection is essential for the World Food Programme (WFP) in safeguarding basic human rights, including access to food, education, and livelihoods.

This affirmation was made by the WFP Acting Country Director, Tiwonge Machiwenyika, during the celebration of International Human Rights Day and Namibia Women's Day at Outapi.

Machiwenyika stated that WFP connects social protection to broader goals of human development and resilience.

He emphasized that addressing food insecurity and vulnerabilities is vital for building a resilient and equitable society.

The World Food Programme is committed to supporting Namibia's ambitions for prosperity and implementing various state programs, such as home-grown school feeding, cash transfers, and livelihood initiatives.

He added that partnerships and collaborations are crucial for championing innovation, stimulating local economies, and enabling key systems that benefit the masses.
