Subsistence farmers in the Kavango East Region are hopeful of a better harvest following consistent rainfall.

While some farmers were already planting, others were clearing their crop fields. Crops have also started to germinate for those who planted early.

Farmers say last year they lost out due to unfavourable weather.

Subsistence farmers do not only plant crops for consumption, but they also generate an income from surplus.

This season also offers casual job opportunities for the unemployed, where they can assist farmers who may require extra hands.
