The General Secretary of the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU), Jacob Penda, has called on employers to comply with the National Minimum Wage, effective 1 January 2025.
To ensure adherence, he urged the Ministry of Labour and the Office of the Labour Commissioner to set up a team to monitor compliance and enforce penalties, including fines and license revocations.
Penda also encouraged union members to report any violations of the wage order for swift action.
The minimum wage for all workers, except domestic and agricultural workers, has increased to N$18 per hour.
Domestic and agricultural workers' wages will gradually increase over three years to reach N$18.
