As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Gobabis Vocational Training Centre will manufacture 100 pairs of school shoes for vulnerable children in the region.

The Gobabis VTC Marketing and Communication Officer, Violet Simataa, emphasized in an interview with nbc News that, given the advancement of the centre, they saw it fitting to utilise their trainees to assist some school-going children with shoes.

"We took it upon ourselves as an institution within the region to produce a hundred pairs of shoes. This project is spearheaded by our trainees in leatherwork, which is supervised by Mr. Veii. The good thing is that these shoes are being made by our own trainees under his guidance."

Simataa urged community members, through regional leadership and traditional authorities, to ensure that young unemployed people join the centre for skills development.

The instructor at the Gobabis Vocational Training Centre, Uvatera Veii, applauded the trainees for their dedication to the project.

They anticipate completing the shoe assignment before the end of next month.

Veii also highlighted the importance of vocational training for the country's economy.

"Currently, we are testing the patterns and designs so that we can create the right products needed for the job. As I can say, we are almost there; we have some samples that I am satisfied with, and I hope in the future we can undertake more projects."

The nbc News also caught up with one of the trainees who is manufacturing the school shoes.

"We have come a long way since we started because when we came here we had no knowledge about this. Now, you can see in our first product how far we have come, and this is indeed a very interesting field."

Besides production and design, there are other trades such as office administration, clothing production, air conditioning and refrigeration, welding, and automotive mechatronics.
