The Khomas Regional Council has formalized a twinning agreement with the Cunene Province of Angola to enhance cooperation in sanitation, agriculture, health, and education.
The agreement was signed at the conclusion of the Cunene delegation’s visit to the Khomas Region yesterday. Negotiations for the partnership began in November last year, following a visit by Khomas officials to Angola.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Cunene Province Governor Gerdine Didalelwa, through a translator, expressed optimism about the impact of the agreement on the province’s health sector.
"Cunene has a modern hospital, but we lack specialist medical professionals in fields such as gynaecology. To fully utilize the technological advancements in our facilities, we are hopeful that this agreement will yield positive results at the highest level between Angola and Namibia," she said.
The agreement also aims to address challenges in sanitation, education, and agriculture.
Khomas Region Governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying it would strengthen bilateral ties and open new opportunities for both regions.
"We must build on our existing achievements and ensure that people on the ground in both Khomas and Cunene experience the tangible benefits of this partnership," she stated.
As part of the event, both governors also signed a joint work report.
The Cunene delegation spent a week in the Khomas Region on a familiarization visit, exploring ways to address common challenges. During their stay, they visited project sites, schools, healthcare centers, and various ministerial offices.
