A member of the One Economy Foundation's '#BeFree' initiative, Edwardo Swartz, said receiving a new pair of school shoes represents more than a donation; rather, it is a sign of hope amid a dim situation.

The donation was made possible by the Association of Diplomatic Spouses, in collaboration with the One Economy Foundation's '#BeFree' initiative.

A Grade 9 learner at Cosmos High School, Edwardo Swarts lives in Katutura.

Like many of the 99 other vulnerable learners who benefitted from the donation, he has witnessed the harsh realities of his community, where drug and alcohol abuse, as well as prostitution, cast large shadows over youth dreams.

Swarts recalls the last time he received a new pair of shoes was four years ago.

He was still in primary school then, he says, opening up about his struggles, his hopes, and his dreams.

As part of an initiative funded through a N$20,000 sponsorship from the Association of Diplomatic Spouses, 100 dedicated members of '#BeFree' received school shoes, ensuring they attend school with dignity and pride.
