Founding President Sam Nujoma has been described as a national hero who, throughout his political career, was always one to cherish peace.

This was the common portrayal of the late Founding President among some leaders in Katima Mulilo, who sent messages of condolences to the Nujoma family and the Namibian nation on Sunday.

The Katima Mulilo town council's chief executive officer said that the founding president leaves a legacy that will continue to be cherished and respected for years to come.

The Swapo party district mobiliser for Katima Urban, Nsala Muhongo, recalled the Founding President's major role in leading the country to independence.

The former mayor of Katima Mulilo, Charles Matengu, praised the late Nujoma while remembering him as the last remaining among founding leaders who fought for independence across Africa. Matengu also noted how Nujoma was honoured by the town while he was still alive.
