The government has unveiled the official mourning portrait of the Founding President, Sam Nujoma, to be displayed during the mourning period.
Audrin Mathe, Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), announced that the portrait will be accessible nationwide.
Dr. Mathe provided this update during the daily briefings for the late Founding President's funeral at the Government Information Centre.
"This is the official mourning portrait of the Founding President, featuring a black ribbon in the top corner to signify our nation's mourning. The portrait, along with a book of condolences, will be available at regional governors' offices, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Judiciary, the residence of the late Founding President, and Parliament. We also encourage the private sector to display this portrait in locations where condolence message books will be set up. Schools interested in obtaining the portrait can contact MICT; we will provide a digital copy free of charge. The only requirement is that they print it themselves."
Dr. Mathe also shared information regarding visiting hours at the late Founding President's residence on the outskirts of Windhoek.
Visiting hours are scheduled from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with daily memorial services held from Monday to Friday.
"These are the designated hours for those wishing to pay their respects. We request that visitors refrain from coming on Saturdays and Sundays, as these days are reserved for the family to rest. If anyone has inquiries, they may contact Mr. Desmond Amunyela to arrange visits during this time."
Additionally, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has dismissed a false list circulating on social media, claiming to solicit contributions for the Founding President's funeral.
"During this period, there will be individuals looking to exploit the situation. Please do not allow anyone to pressure you into giving them money. The state is managing the arrangements for the state funeral, although we encourage individuals and the private sector to contribute in any way they can. However, contributions will not be accepted through social media solicitations. We discourage all such messages. The police should investigate and take necessary action against those responsible."
