The Walvis Bay Municipality has cleared former Chief Executive Officer Muronga Haingura of corruption charges.

The municipality, in a statement, indicated that Haingura was not implicated in an auditors' report on alleged misappropriation of council funds.

Haingura was accused of embezzling N$24 million from the Mass Land Servicing Project in 2020.

The former CEO was suspended in the same year, along with other officials.

The Anti-Corruption Commission opened an investigation, while the council appointed an auditor to probe the claims.

A report from the auditors was received in 2021, which the municipality confirmed did not contain any specific findings implicating Haingura.

Haingura was reinstated, but the council decided not to renew his contract.

He sued the municipality for N$18 million, claiming defamation and lost employment opportunities due to the council's actions.
