As the Capricorn Eagles prepare for their quadrangular tournament in Uganda, the spotlight at their official send-off event was also on former captain Irene van Zyl.

A special tribute was paid to the cricket veteran, who announced her retirement last week after an illustrious 13-year career representing Namibia.

Reflecting on her retirement, Van Zyl acknowledged that every journey has a beginning and an end.

She expressed her pride in how far women's cricket has come and how honored she feels to have played for her country.

Van Zyl also took the time to thank everyone who supported her throughout her career.

Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller praised Van Zyl's significant role in paving the way for upcoming female cricketers, saying her contribution has helped transform the women's game in Namibia.

Eagles captain Sune Wittmann paid a heartfelt tribute on behalf of the team, saying that Van Zyl's leadership and presence will be deeply missed.

She shared that the squad will always cherish the moments spent with her both on and off the field.

With her legacy firmly cemented, Irene van Zyl steps away from the game, knowing she has made a lasting impact on Namibian women's cricket.
