Namwater is calling for public cooperation to protect critical water infrastructure and ensure a steady water supply in the Ombafi-Ongongo canal.

The water utility has noticed that some community members are illegally siphoning water from the canal to fill oshanas for fishing.

This unauthorized action has resulted in a significant decrease in water levels within the canal.

Namwater emphasizes that this practice directly impacts the raw water supply to the Ongongo and Oshakati water treatment plants,

which provide drinking water to thousands of residents. Any disruption to these supplies poses a serious threat to water security.

Namwater encourages the public to report any acts of vandalism or unauthorized water usage to its offices or to the nearest police station.
