Councillors serving in the Erongo Regional Council have voted out the Arandis Councillor and Chairperson of the Management Committee, Benitha Imbamba, following a vote of no confidence.

This was revealed by the Walvis Bay Rural Councillor, Donatus Tegako, in an interview with nbc news.

Tabling the motion, Walvis Bay Urban Constituency Councillor Deriou Benson accused Imbamba of poor leadership and sowing division among councillors, stating that she does not consult fellow councillors before making decisions.

In support of the motion was Walvis Bay Rural Councillor Donatus Tegako.

Tegako criticized Imbamba's leadership, which he alleged is characterized by favoritism towards Swapo-led constituencies while sidelining the opposition-led ones.

UDF's Daures Councillor, Kennedy !Haoseb, also supported Benson's motion.

Walvis Bay Rural Councillor Tegako mentioned that this is the third time a motion of no confidence has been tabled against Imbamba.

"Confidence is something else; when you put it in today, you might change your perspective tomorrow. That tells you somewhere along the line the honorable members are not happy with either the whole management or the chairperson. It's not up to them to decide who they think is the cause of the delays in development because what we need to understand is that the reason why we have the chairperson, the reason why we have the management and the council, is to drive development agendas to bring the humanitarian agenda to the people at the crossroads. People at the crossroads don't want to hear about the fights or anything about who is the cheap person or who is the word because people at the constituency levels voted for their honourable councillor."

Tegako stated that after deliberation, the council voted in favour of the motion, resulting in the resignation of several members of the management committee.

The council is yet to reconstitute a new management committee.

The office of the Chief Regional Officer has assured residents that there will be no interruption in operations or services.

Efforts to contact Imbamba were unsuccessful as her mobile number went unanswered.
