President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has pointed out Namibia's resolve to add value to its natural resources, making cooperation with Russia key.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah held talks with Russia's Deputy Prime Minister, Yuri Trutnev, at State House on Tuesday.

Press Secretary Alfredo Hengari shared a brief summary of the outcome of the meeting between Nandi-Ndaitwah and Trutnev.

"The President highlighted the need for stronger cooperation with the Russian Federation in the area of energy, which has been prioritized as key to the prosperity of the Namibian people, and also implored the DPM on the necessity to beneficiate natural resources. Russia is a key player in the nuclear sector, and Namibia is rich in uranium. In that vein, President Nandi-Ndaitwah mentioned that Namibia is currently focused on natural resource beneficiation and that cooperation with the Russian Federation is welcomed. It is not good economic policy for Namibia to export raw materials, including uranium, and the DPM agreed with our President on the need for Namibia to deliver its resources. The area of education was also emphasized, as Namibian students are currently studying in Russia, highlighting the need for them to skill up."
