The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Land Reform to commence community awareness about the possible spread of the locust outbreak in the SADC region.

During a Cabinet briefing in Windhoek today, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology said the Cabinet took note of the rainfall situation, the prospect of a locust outbreak in the region and its likelihood of spreading to Namibia.

Emma Theofelus says the community awareness exercise will include information on locust outbreaks and the control of locusts and other pests.

She also said the Cabinet approved the signing of a defence force cooperation MoU between Namibia and Kenya.

The MoU was approved, as it seeks to provide a framework for enhanced reciprocal cooperation in the field of defence and security between the two countries.

The Cabinet has also authorised the Ministry of Works and Transport to table its annual report for the 2023/2024 financial year in the National Assembly.
