The Chairperson of Namibia Post and Telecom Holdings (NPTH), Sencia Kaizemi-Rukata, has resigned to assume responsibilities in an international role.
Kaizemi-Rukata has been appointed as an independent director on the board of a Fintech subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho. Econet Telecom Lesotho is 30% owned by the Lesotho government and 70% by Econet Wireless Global.
Kaizemi-Rukata's decision to step down coincides with NPTH's dismantling process, which aims to enable its two state-owned subsidiaries, Telecom Namibia and NamPost, to operate independently while remaining under direct State control.
This restructuring follows the enactment of the Namibia Postal and Telecommunications Corporations Amendment Act, which came into effect on August 19, 2020, to formalise NPTH's dissolution.
To date, NPTH has absorbed 95% of its staff into its subsidiaries and transferred 75% of its immovable properties to them.
NPTH achieved a group revenue of N$5.3 billion and a consolidated net profit of N$1 billion for the 2022/23 financial year.
Kaizemi-Rukata expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead NPTH during such a transformative period. She highlighted the importance of her upcoming international role in advancing global telecommunications and fintech innovations.
