An investment committee has been established in the Omaheke Region to promote agriculture, tourism, transport, and logistics for regional development.
At the first Regional Investment Committee meeting in Gobabis, Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Kariseb, emphasized the goal of promoting regional investment and economic growth by identifying viable projects and addressing investment constraints.
Kariseb noted that with the help of key partners such as the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, the committee will shape the investment landscape, particularly in fostering the skills and technical expertise necessary for sustainable economic growth.
"I am confident that the Omaheke Regional Investment Committee will serve as a structured mechanism to achieve these goals, ensuring that investment opportunities are properly identified, developed, and promoted through strategic collaboration. The committee will identify challenges within the business environment and propose practical solutions to unlock investment opportunities."
François Van Schalkwyk, Executive Director of Investment at the Namibia Investment Promotion Board, stated the board should focus on unemployment, poverty, and economic inequalities as crucial areas in trade development.
"Our main objectives are to promote local investment, create jobs, develop companies that can export their products, and advance technology by introducing new techniques and skills into the economy."
The Omaheke investment committee is also expected to promote the region as a competitive destination for local and foreign investors.
