Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Natangwe Ithete, has called for African nations, particularly Namibia, to prioritise the production of their own electricity to ensure energy independence.

Speaking at the official opening of the Regional Energy Regulation Association's (RERA) annual conference, Ithete emphasised that energy independence is not merely about resilience but also encompasses sovereignty, economic security, and regional strength.

The event that took place at Swakopmund is themed "The Regulators' Readiness Towards a Just Energy Transition" and brings together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss ways to achieve a fair and sustainable energy future for Africa.
