Kavango East Governor Julius Hambyuka has said the government will assist the family that lost three children in a lightning strike last week.
The incident happened at Katenture Village in the Mukwe Constituency.
The children were seeking shelter from the rain in this room when lightning struck.
Three boys died.
They were identified as Matamu Nyambi (4), Kathumbi Dinyando Folka (5) and Frans Thinyemba (13).
Their deaths came as a heavy blow for the family, who are already struggling with some of the basic necessities.
"The loss of the young people, three in one house, is not easy, so what we observed is that they need assistance. The government has to come and provide them with coffins and food, including the room which got burnt by lightning; it also needs to be replaced," said Governor Hambyuka.
The Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, is calling on the community to also assist the family during this difficult time.
"The family are very destitute; they do not have any means of survival. They are subsistence farmers; therefore, I'm calling upon good Samaritans so that all of us can come together. It's not only the responsibility of the government or the responsibility of the office of the Prime Minister, but it's the responsibility of all of us Namibians, peace-loving Namibians; all of us come together and assist the family."
A 10-year-old girl, Victoria Thinyemba, is the only one who survived the lightning strike and is said to be in a stable condition at the Andara Hospital.
