The public has been urged to be vigilant against social media posts attributing false statements to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The Presidency issued the caution following the circulation of social media posts and online articles alleging that President Nandi-Ndaitwah has ordered the deportation of over 500 American nationals on the grounds of visa reciprocity.

Several social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook, such as African_historyandnews, its_onsiteafrica, and afrika.world, have circulated misinformation and fake posts alleging that President Nandi-Ndaitwah has ordered the deportation of over 500 American nationals.

These posts, which in some instances were reshared by celebrities, feature fabricated quotes and images containing misinformation and disinformation, allegedly stated by President Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The presidency says these acts are intended to tarnish the image of the president and the government and to create potential diplomatic embarrassment.

"The Presidency wishes to make it categorically clear that no such order of deportation or statement has been issued by the President, and no mass deportation of American nationals is underway. All immigration-related offences in Namibia are dealt with in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Namibia. Namibia remains committed to maintaining strong diplomatic and bilateral relations with the United States of America, and all immigration matters are handled through established legal and diplomatic channels. Namibia continues to uphold international norms, including visa and immigration policies, based on mutual respect and reciprocity. The Presidency urges the public, media houses, and digital content creators to verify information from official government channels before sharing or reporting on these. For official updates and verified statements, please refer to the website of the Presidency and other official channels."
