President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has congratulated Gabon's president-elect, General Brice Oligui Nguema.

In a letter to Nguema, President Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and to collaborating on advancing the economic and trade relations between Namibia and Gabon.

She expressed confidence that under Nguema's leadership, the Gabonese people will continue to hold the positive and active leadership role for which the country is known on the African continent.

The former military leader Nguema secured victory in the April 12th polls, with 90% of the vote, while his main contender, Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, garnered only 3% of the vote.

His win also ended the 55 years of rule of the Bongo family, which led to a 2023 coup against former President Ali Bongo.

Nguema then assumed the role of a transitional president while overseeing the formation of a government tasked with drawing up a new constitution and ultimately preparing the country for democratic elections.
