Tsumkwe Constituency Councillor Johannes Haufiku has been sworn in as the new chairperson of the Management Committee of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council.
The swearing-in ceremony, officiated by Magistrate Peingondjabi Shipo, also saw Okakarara Constituency Councillor Ramana Mutjavikua sworn in to represent the region in the National Council.
The two positions became vacant following the departure of Otjiwarongo Constituency councillor Marlyn Mbakera, who also served as chairperson and is now a member of the National Assembly.
Ramana Mutjavikua takes over from Elder Filipe of the Grootfontein Constituency, who represented the region in the National Council and now in the National Assembly.
Accepting his new dual position, Hausiku called on the regional councillors to work together for the betterment of the masses they serve in their constituencies.
"When we became councillors, we were calling ourselves a winning team, and so we have been keeping this spirit to be the winning team, as we were saying it in the beginning, and let's keep the same spirit because whenever we have misunderstandings, the masses on the ground are the ones who will suffer, so therefore let's be on the same page we started, and let's work together. Where help is needed, let's assist each other to do the right things."
Last month, Okahandja Constituency Councillor Bethuel Tjaveondja was sworn in as a regional council chairperson.
But this had to be revoked, as the law stipulates a member already serving in the National Assembly cannot take up such a position.
He has been serving in the 6th National Council since 2020.
