The police have dismissed social media reports that a man was killed by his employer in Windhoek's Lafrenz Industrial Area.

In a statement, police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said their investigations found that an altercation took place between an employer (a Chinese national) and his employee, resulting in both individuals suffering injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The employee allegedly arrived at work intoxicated and confronted his employer, demanding his salary.

Footage shared by the police shows the man demanding money before pulling out what appears to be a knife. Eyewitnesses say the employer and other Chinese nationals acted in self-defence by subduing the man, leaving him unconscious and bleeding.

Emergency services transported him to the hospital, but he later fled the facility. Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi also stated that the Chinese employer has opened a case of assault against the worker.

Social media reports yesterday falsely declared the man dead at the scene, sparking public outrage. Authorities have dismissed these claims as fake news and misinformation.

The Chinese Embassy also released a statement describing the online narrative as “misleading and false” and confirmed that law enforcement is conducting a full investigation. The public is urged to refrain from spreading unverified information.
