The police long-weekend crime report shows a continued spate of crimes committed against women and girls, with another murder and rape reported over the weekend.

A three-year-old girl is among the weekend crime statistics after she was allegedly raped by her grandmother’s 35-year-old boyfriend in Windhoek.

Police said the victim is admitted to Katutura State Hospital, and the suspect has been arrested.

Also in Katutura, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped, beaten, strangled, and stabbed with a fork by her ex-boyfriend.

According to the police report, the victim was with her aunt at a gambling house at B1 Centre when the suspect grabbed her and forcibly took her to the Youth Complex.

A 35-year-old Angolan man allegedly raped a 23-year-old intellectually disabled woman on Friday at King Kauluma village, Nehale Lyampingana Constituency, in the Oshikoto Region. Both the suspect and the victim reside in the house where the rape took place, as a cattle herder and domestic worker, respectively. The victim's uncle filed charges on her behalf, leading to the suspect's arrest.

At Klein |Aub, a village west of Rehoboth in the Hardap Region, the body of 27-year-old Moreen Van Wyk was found in a riverbed in Rietoog.

Police allege that she was strangled and repeatedly hit on the head with stones by her 32-year-old boyfriend.

According to the Namibian Police, 4,814 GBV-related cases were recorded during the 2023/24 financial year, with the |Khomas Region reporting the highest number at 758.
