President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has congratulated German conservative leader Friedrich Merz on his election as Chancellor.
Merz was elected by parliament in a second round of voting after losing in his first attempt.
In her congratulatory message, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia and Germany have enjoyed bilateral relations since independence.
Despite the two countries' shared but difficult history, the Head of State noted that Namibia and Germany have demonstrated success in working together.
This includes strengthening the UN’s multilateral system when the two countries co-chaired the UN Summit of the Future, leading to the historic adoption of the Pact for the Future.
The President said she looks forward to working with Chancellor Merz to scale up economic cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
