Otjiwarongo residents took to the streets in solidarity with Okahandja residents following the murder of three girls over the past two months.
As the regional capital of Otjozondjupa, senior citizens in Otjiwarongo felt the town was too quiet on the murder cases and organised a demonstration under the theme 'Protect our Children and Stop the Killing'.
The police, NANSO representatives and church leaders also attended the gathering.
Addressing the crowd, Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb says with the brutal killings of young lives at Okahandja, families are left shattered.
"An injury to one is an injury to all; we find ourselves in a scenario where children are now afraid to go to school. I personally do believe that bringing back capital punishment will be the end to this scenario. We are too flexible, too Europe-based, and too human rights-based, but capital punishment that is also executed in Botswana can be brought back into Namibia after all the brutalities that we experience in a short period of time."
With the suspects in the Okahandja cases still at large, parents are fearful of their children going to school or even just playing outside.
Candles were lit at the gathering in remembrance of Ingrid Maasdorp, Roswind Fabianus and Beyonce |Kharuxas.
