The Okakarara Constituency Councillor, Ramana Mutjavikua, is calling on the Okatjoruu community to assist in revamping the Otjituuo Primary School as the school approaches its upcoming 90th anniversary event.

Situated in the Okakarara Constituency, Okatjoruu settlement is estimated to have a population of more than 8,000 inhabitants.

Established in September 1935, Otjituuo Primary School is the only school at the settlement.

The school currently has 525 learners who are taught in classrooms that are in a dilapidated state because of ageing infrastructure.

The education ministry is making efforts to maintain the school and the hostel.

However, for a school that's nearly 90 years old, Councillor Mutjavikua said that it requires a complete overhaul.

"Therefore, we are calling upon the ministry to also come on board and appreciate what we are trying to do as a community and also to help revamp the school in comparison to its history."

The revamping includes infrastructure development and upgrading of water systems, as well as the expansion of the ablution facilities.

The idea is to have Otjituuo Primary School in an improved state come September, when the school turns ninety years old.
