The National Democratic Party (NDP) is taking steps toward expanding its presence nationally by endorsing the appointment of Ruben Awaseb as the party's first regional coordinator and Gift Kwala as the regional mobiliser for Erongo Region.

Party president and MP Martin Lukato announced the appointments during a media conference in the DRC informal settlement at Swakopmund.

Lukato emphasised the party's commitment to addressing the region's socio-economic challenges.

Residents of the DRC settlement highlighted issues such as widespread poverty, youth unemployment, crime, and a lack of adequate housing.

Lukato assured attendees that their concerns would be brought to the National Assembly and that efforts would be made to drive change in the community.

He emphasised that the NDP is a party open to all Namibians regardless of race, tribe, colour, or gender and reiterated the party's goal of establishing a presence in all 14 regions of the country.

As part of its national growth strategy, Lukato called on the youth to join in large numbers to help tackle social issues.

"I am appealing to the youth to join NDP in big numbers countrywide so that together we can transform the political landscape of this country as well as grow the economy. Furthermore, let me take this opportunity once more to inform the Namibian nation that the NDP is ready to participate in the upcoming November Regional Councils and Local Authorities' Elections countrywide."

The newly appointed regional leadership has been tasked with recruiting and mobilizing new members to increase the party's support and visibility in the area.

Over 30 residents of the settlement joined the party.
