President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was in Mozambique for a one-day working visit today.

The visit on Monday follows recent trips to Angola, Zambia, and Botswana as President Nandi-Ndaitwah looks to build on the country's relations and to introduce herself as the new president of Namibia.

It was her fourth external undertaking since becoming president.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah was welcomed by her Mozambican counterpart, President Daniel Chapo.

The two leaders are perhaps SADC's, if not Africa's, newest presidents. Daniel Chapo became President of Mozambique in January 2025.

Namibia and Mozambique have shared strong political bonds since the days of Samora Machel and the Frelimo party, but those relations have waned in recent times.

During a tête-à-tête, President Nandi-Ndaitwah urged for stronger collaboration on the economic frontier.

Although a cooperation agreement between Namibia and Mozambique has been in place since 1990, little has been done to operationalise its objectives.

Both governments admit that more needs to be done to breathe life into the agreement and turn intentions into action.

Speaking on the outcomes of the meeting, the two leaders committed themselves to strengthening bilateral relations, acknowledging the urgent need to enhance cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.
